Helpful Tip: Parcel Maps

By Dave Knospe

When looking for a property look at the parcel map (or “plat map”) for answers to some of your questions.  A lot of times the plat map will have the dimensions of the property.  This will help you decided if the property is laid out the way you need it to be.  It will also show you any access roads and the surrounding properties.

For the new LandCentral website, we completely redesigned the Parcel Map. You’ll know find it as a link over the interactive driving directions on each and every property. The Parcel Map will then open up in your window and will look a little bit different than it used to. For starters, we’ve overlayed the parcel map over top of an actual satellite image of the property. You’ll also notice a quick reference card at the top left of the image so you can keep track of which property you are looking at. Another addition is the red outline that you will see below. We heard far too often that parcel maps were difficult to read and that is was difficult to identify which property was featured on the map. While we cant actually change the map itself (it’s created and distributed by the government) we did make improvements on top of it to help make that identification process easier!

New-Parcel-Map provides may tools for you to make your perfect selection.  If you use them all, you will be an informed buyer.
